What is CranioSacral Therapy?
This is a noninvasive, gentle yet effective form of holistic healing. It involves a lighter than light touch based mainly on the head and sacral area of the body. Craniosacral Therapy takes a whole-person approach to healing and the inter-connections of mind, body and spirit are deeply acknowledged. Each individual has their own craniosacral rhythm formed from the moment of creation that continues on throughout life known as the “breath of life” it is accompanied by an awesome energy driving it known as the “life force within”. Due to life itself this rhythm may become disturbed, interrupted and affected by stress, illness dis-ease and trauma. The role of an experienced practitioner is to connect with the individuals rhythm which itself begins to tell a story and reveals patterns. The practitioner is interested in the forces that hold certain patterns established as a result of poor health, trauma and the individuals life experience. Individuals are invited to release the hold both physically and energetically and to help the body reorganize itself from the inside out.
What can I expect from a session?
During a session you remove your shoes, lay on your back and remain fully clothed. The practitioner generally starts at the head. Using gentle hands placements she works to cradle the individuals craniosacral system with a compassionate light touch. This work is one of more listening and following, allowing the expression of the clients system to come to the practitioner. Once the therapeutic relationship has been established a healing process arises that is unique to the individual and the moment. During a session you may experience moments of great ease, almost like the body taking a big sigh of relief and you get a sense that a great weigh has been lifted off you or a holding layer has been removed. It is very common with this form of healing that you may recall times when you felt deeply stressed or traumatized, as the body releases its hold on the negative force trapped within your physical and energetic body. The experience is as individual as you are. The role of an experienced practitioner is to open and hold a safe space to allow whatever arises in the moment to heal, weather physical, emotional or spiritual.
What benefits should I expect from Craniosacral Therapy?!
It is an effective form of treatment for a wide range of illnesses helping to create the optimal conditions for health, encouraging vitality and facilitating a sense of well-being. A practitioner has skills that can influence the spinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, work with the tension patterns in the membranes that contain this fluid, assist the central nervous system in balancing its functions, increase the general energy level of the body, heal strains in soft tissues, help joints recover from dislocations, help the body improve its structural alignment and encourage healing in a number of other ways. It can offer benefits for headaches, migraines, tinnitus, sinus congestion, mental alertness, concentration and focusing capacity, anxiety, TMJ syndrome, neck tightness, spine and back issues, pelvic mobility, sciatica, diaphragmatic relaxation and respiratory function, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.
It is helpful to remember that no holistic approach is appropriate for all conditions. The benefits of craniosacral therapy are well documented and sometimes in times when Western medicine remains perplexed individuals had found this form of healing beneficial.
